ABB and NASCAR Unveil Sport’s First Grid Control at San Diego

News Desk

Electrification News – ABB, the Official Electrification Partner of NASCAR, unveiled ABB NASCAR Grid Control at the NASCAR San Diego Weekend (June 19-21, 2026), presented by Anduril. This first-of-its-kind fan experience offers unprecedented real-time insights into race operations and sustainability efforts. Housed in a prominent glass pod in the general admission fan zone, the activation features 11 live video feeds, data dashboards, and simulcasts from NASCAR Race Control, allowing fans to experience telemetry, analytics, and officiating like never before.

The event operated entirely off the local utility grid using a temporary network of ABB-optimized microgrids. A hybrid system combining Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and diesel generators (with generators running only 2-3 hours daily for charging) delivered reliable power while minimizing emissions.

Real-time monitoring via ABB CogniEN™ software and Sensorfact™ sensors tracked zone-specific energy use, carbon savings, and optimizations across fan areas, operations, grandstands, and hospitality.

This supports NASCAR IMPACT’s net-zero emissions goal by 2035. ABB technologies like Tmax XT circuit breakers, ReliaGear panels, and ReliaGear XFMR transformers enabled rapid deployment. Fans could also view the ABB NASCAR EV Prototype nearby.

The initiative highlights how major events can reduce grid strain and carbon impact through intelligent electrification.
