Electrification News 23 June, London – The European Commission, alongside international partners, today launched ‘Electrify Now’, a major global platform designed to accelerate clean electrification across key sectors of the economy. The initiative was unveiled during London Climate Action Week and brings together
- the COP30 Presidency (Brazil),
- COP31 Presidency (Australia and Türkiye),
- incoming COP32 Presidency (Ethiopia),
- Canada,
- the Philippines,
- Republic of Korea,
- the United Kingdom,
- the International Energy Agency (IEA),
- and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA),
along with industry and financial partners.
‘Electrify Now’ responds directly to ongoing energy security challenges and fossil fuel volatility. It aims to raise the global share of electricity in final energy demand to 35% by 2035, with a strong focus on electrifying industry, transport, and buildings — sectors still heavily reliant on fossil fuels.
The platform will support modernisation of electricity grids, increased energy storage, and development of resilient clean power supply chains.
European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jørgensen emphasised that clean electrification serves not only climate goals but also enhances energy security, competitiveness, and economic opportunity.
The initiative is open to additional governments, businesses, and institutions to join. It positions electrification as a practical tool to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, shield economies from price shocks, and drive innovation in clean technologies.
Key priorities include sector-specific electrification strategies, grid infrastructure upgrades, and international collaboration to scale solutions. Supporters view the platform as a vehicle to advance COP ambitions while delivering tangible benefits for energy consumers and industries.
The launch coincides with broader EU efforts to strengthen energy system integration and resilience.
